engineeringTechnical Challenge: The 2026 Era
The 2026 season brings new power units with increased electrical output and active aerodynamics to Formula 1. The Baku City Circuit will serve as the perfect proving ground:
Battle on the Straight
On the 2.2 km stretch along Neftchilar Avenue, the new cars will utilize active drag-reduction systems. Expected top speeds — over 360 km/h.
The Castle Section
The narrowest part of the calendar (7.6m). The new, more compact 2026 cars should tackle it even faster, but the penalty for an error remains an instant DNF.
Hybrid Power
Efficient ERS energy deployment will be the decisive factor for overtakes into Turn 1 following the massive acceleration zone.
stadiumGrandstand Guide: Where's the Best View?
Your seat selection defines your weekend experience.
Absheron (Main Grandstand)
Directly opposite the garages. Start, finish, pit stops, and podium. The best choice for those who want to be at the heart of the action.
Azneft (Turn 16)
The exit onto the finish straight. One of the highest speed sections, often the site of dramatic spins and overtakes.
Icheri Sheher (Turn 8)
The most atmospheric spot. Cars fly past the medieval fortress. No overtakes, but the best photos and steering technique displays.
Philharmonic (Turn 16)
Heavy braking zone. Perfect for watching the cars' deceleration techniques before corner entry.

Between sessions, dive into the local cuisine. Must-tries: authentic Azerbaijani Plov, vine-leaf Dolma, and hot Qutabs with herbs or meat. The Old City restaurants offer the best local vibe.
securityVeteran Tips
Baku is windy and sunny. Mandatory kit: SPF50 sunscreen, sunglasses, and earplugs (the 2026 engines will be roaring). A power bank will save your phone after thousands of Turn 16 photos.
wb_sunnyWeather & Wind
Late September is hot during the day, but a strong Caspian wind ('Khazri') blows in the evening; a light windbreaker is essential.
Why You Can't Miss This
Baku is the only track where the first several years saw six different winners. In 2026, as teams are still adapting to new cars, the likelihood of a sensational podium skyrockets.
The Baku round is a race where strategy can collapse a lap before the finish line, and an underdog can become a hero.
